Why do we take blood pressure at the dentist office?
High blood pressure is known as the "silent killer". Many patients see their dentist more frequently than their physician. So, as a service to our patients, we take blood pressure readings to screen for undiagnosed high blood pressure (hypertension). Over the years we have detected several very high blood pressures and been able to send our patients for appropriate care.
Another reason we take blood pressure here is to prevent any potentially harmful interactions with drugs used in the dental office.
The bottom line is we are trying to keep our patients safe and prevent vascular disease and strokes.
